Athletes Celebreties?

I believe that athletes are have celebrity status but, are also very important to others as role models toward young people. The role model status should be the most important status of any athlete. this is because they have indirect and direct influences on the way young people think and act toward their athletic activities and also in their general lives.

This in terms can be both a good and bad influence in the athletes actions. This is why athletes should think sometimes a little harder about their actions before they happen and not be rash. Young people sometimes act too much like the people they are looking up to and when that happens the young people will make the same mistakes that athletes make. Now I am not saying that all athletes give a bad public eye for themselves, this is not true at all. What I am saying is that most news will pick up on any negative actions they do and will immediately change the public’s view about them. The news though however does not show as often as they should all the good things that athletes do in order to boost their influences on young people the best way possible. The athletes got to realize that their negative actions will be highlighted more on the news compared to their positive actions. The young people that actually realize what is going on that these athletes do wrong might lose a little faith in their "hero" and not want to see them compete anymore. In the end if an athlete goes and does a negative action in the public’s eye they will essentially destroy their reputation.

On the other hand if the athletes stick with positive actions they may not get as much media attention but, they will be doing the right thing as role models.

  1. I agree that even though they might not get as much attention, athletes need to do the right thing. They don't consider the effects their bad behavior has on the kids looking up to them.
